About Us

School Identity

Peninsula International Academy was founded by Selena Lucas in February 2013 and has flourished in the following years, growing to become the first Central American/Caricom Big Picture Learning school in 2017. Big Picture Learning (BPL) is a worldwide organization dedicated to a student centered education revolution.

PIA is a relationship-based school shaped by an advisory program, galvanizing independent thinking, incorporating student centered, real world learning while contributing service to the community.

Peninsula International Academy is redefining an excellent Belizean education, implementing innovation and interrupting inequity. PIA aims to enable students to understand the world around them and the talents within them so that they can become fulfilled individuals and active, compassionate citizens.

We are unique and committed to decreasing systemic inequity, offering 42% of our Belizean students low or no cost tuition.

  • PIA’s goal is to educate students to become independent thinkers, lifelong learners, to pursue academic excellence and individual achievement, in a context of respect for others and service to the community.
  • PIA’s mission is to develop the unique capabilities of each student. The school aims to foster a love of learning; to create independent, confident, and contributing members of our community and the world. PIA works to guide children on their natural course of discovery, to encourage deep thinking, problem solving and compassion for others.
